Houses with whitewashed walls decorated with yellow, blue or red lids. The rusty roofs covered with tiles covered with moss. Narrow, cobbled streets winding up, towards the ruins of the citadel. Lots of greenery and flowers in pots. The whole is surrounded by a fairly high city wall. Óbidos, because here we are, looks like a real fairy-tale town!

Piotr Kraśko: The world according to the reporter. Sweden
I read each issue of National Geographic almost from cover to cover, I have all the numbers from the Polish edition, starting from the pilot one, in my collection , I just really like this magazine. And the publisher has decided that I, as a subscriber, should be from time to time offerred a bonus. Once it was a little book by Beata Pawlikowska (not yet described here :), and some time ago I received Sweden by Piotr Kraśkofrom his series The world according to the reporter. And well, since I suspect, that disappointed by Pawlikowska supported by NG I would not reach for Kraśko. And so I have something to write about :)

Cold? Maybe cognac or hot chocolate?
It is said, that it lasts for a week if untreated, and treated - only seven days. Cold. Seemingly trivial, but can make life harder, and especially during travels. I think, I'm fairly immune, but once or twice a year, I catch cold - in winter (because of the weather) and in summer (because of the air conditioning). I have my ways of treating it, but when I recently caught this nasty illness, a German friend who has lived several years in Mallorca suggested: Mix 1/3 a glass of cognac with 2/3 glass of hot milk, drink and go to sleep. The next day, you will be as a newborn. Have not tested, but… it turns out, there are more of such crazy therapies!

The victims of landmines in Cambodia
Visiting Angkor I come across several such groups. Several people sitting in front of the entrance to the temple and playing unknown instruments. I look at them – most of them are disabled. They have lost one or both legs, no hands. They are ones of the thousands of people affected by stepping on a landmine. This is how they make a living.

Here, where Helios guarded the entrance to the harbor
He stood alone, his face turned towards the sea, hand shading his eyes and looking away. He reminded everyone of the glory and power of Rhodes. Did not let forget the victory over Demetrius Poliokretes, who at the request of his father, One-Eyed Antigonus tried to conquer the city allied after the death of Alexander the Great with Ptolomeus from Egypt. When Egyptian ships arrived to help the city under siege , Demetrius's army fled in panic, leaving in place its equipment. Residents of Rhodes sold them for 300 talents, and dedicate the money to build the Colossus, who stood at the entrance to the port of Mandraki.
